Common Questions

You can start connecting and learning from our community of advisors by creating a profile. Your profile will allow advisors to help you by informing them of your academic experiences, work experiences, and professional advice you are seeking.

Sync Opp client responsibilities include the following:

  • Respect other members.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with other members.
  • Keep your Sync Opp profile up to date (e.g. work and academic experiences).
  • Be responsive to advisor messages.
  • Keep track of your scheduled meetings.
  • Attend your scheduled meetings.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and meet your advisor using Sync Opp’s tools.

Stay protected by our policies by using our tools (e.g. messaging, scheduling, payment, and meeting) and choosing our screened advisors.

You can search for advisors on the Browse Professionals page using the following criteria: industry, education level, areas of experience, meeting type (phone vs web), and hourly rate. We recommend identifying advisors that have academic experiences, work experiences, or credentials of interest to you. You should proceed by messaging the advisor and clarifying whether an advisor can answer your various career questions.

Note: The process of finding the right advisor takes trial and error. You may need to meet multiple advisors before you can find the one that works best with you.

There is no fee to create a client Sync Opp profile. However, clients will pay 2 fees when meeting with Sync Opp advisors: meeting cost and client fee.

The meeting cost is based on the advisor’s hourly rate and your meeting duration. The client fee is a 15% charge added to the meeting cost.

The client fee supports Sync Opp meeting tools, messaging tools, profile maintenance, your credit card transaction, and recruitment of advisors that can meet your professional needs.

Increase your chances of getting your meeting accepted by following these instructions!

1. Message the advisor and determine if the advisor can offer the advice you are seeking.

2. If it looks like a good fit, determine meeting details that work with the advisor’s schedule:

  • Date
  • Time zone
  • Time range
  • Meeting type (phone vs web)
  • Discussion points (Topics you would like to discuss in your meeting)

3. Go to the advisor’s Sync Opp profile and select the Book Appointment button. You will be asked to enter meeting details you agreed upon with the advisor.

Note: Your meeting will not be officially scheduled until the advisor accepts the meeting.

You can meet your advisors using Sync Opp’s web or phone meeting tools. By using our meeting tools, clients work with advisors they can trust and are protected by Sync Opp policies.

The soonest you can send a meeting request is 72 hours before the proposed meeting date/time. This will allow enough time for the advisor to respond to the request and for you to be notified of the meeting status.

Example: If a client wants to meet the advisor on 1/10/16 at 3:00 PM, the soonest a meeting request can be sent is 1/7/16 at 3:00 PM.

After a meeting request has been submitted, the advisor will be asked to accept or decline the meeting. You will be notified of the meeting status in two ways: (1) Email, and (2) Appointments tab in your My Profile page. Your credit card will be charged once the advisor accepts your meeting request.

After the advisor has accepted your meeting request, you can access meeting instructions in two ways: (1) Email, and (2) Appointments tab in your My Profile page.

Meetings can be cancelled by contacting us at support@syncopp.com. Please notify us of your desire to cancel the meeting and provide us with your meeting information (e.g. your name, your advisor’s name, meeting date and time). Please contact our support team as soon as possible so we can update your meeting status and notify your advisor.

Note: Clients will not receive a refund if they self-cancel less than 48 hours before the meeting date & time. This policy is out of respect for the block of time the advisor has reserved for your meeting.

Unfortunately, we are working on creating this function. If you would like to reschedule, the meeting needs to be cancelled by the advisor or client and the client needs to send another meeting request with the new meeting details.

Note: To receive a full refund for the cancelled meeting, the client must cancel the meeting at least 48 hours before the meeting start date and time. For example, if a meeting is scheduled for 4/11/17 at 1:30pm, the client must cancel the meeting by 4/9/17 at 1:30pm to receive a full refund.

Seeking professional advice on our site may qualify you to receive a tax deduction called Unreimbursed Employee Business Expenses. Please consult with your tax professional to explore this deduction option. It is the responsibility of clients to keep track of expenses spent on Sync Opp’s site since tax-related paperwork will not be issued for this deduction.

Advisors can be students, current professionals, or retired professionals in the following industries: Nursing, Medicine, Dentistry, Physician Assistant, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, and Public Health.

Activating an advisor profile requires 3 steps:

Step 1: Complete personal profile. Let clients know what you have to offer. This is the same profile you complete when you first register.
Step 2: Pass background screen. Sync Opp is dedicated to providing quality advisors our clients can trust. To meet these standards, Sync Opp Advisors need to pass our screening process (academic verification, employment verification, and criminal background check).

Log in > Go to My Profile > Go to the Advisor Center tab > start background screen

Step 3: Complete payment profile. Allows you to designate the account you want earnings to be deposited into.

Go to My Profile > Go to the Advisor Center tab > complete Payment Profile

Note: An onboarding fee is required to conduct a background screen and activate an advisor’s profile.

  • Students enrolled in healthcare program will be charged an onboarding fee of $69.99.
  • Current or retired healthcare professionals will be charged an onboarding fee of $89.99.

If an applicant’s Sync Opp profile has been found to be falsified or a criminal alert has been identified, the applicant will not be granted advisor capabilities or be refunded the onboarding fee. Applicants that have passed the screening process will be notified via email that their ability to be a Sync Opp advisor has been activated.

As a Sync Opp advisor, you can help your clients find the career vision and direction they are seeking by sharing your career experiences, academic experiences, and other career insights.

Sync Opp Advisor responsibilities include the following:

  • Respect clients
  • Maintain a professional relationship
  • Keep your Sync Opp profile up to date (e.g. work and academic experiences)
  • Be responsive to client messages
  • Keep track of your accepted meetings
  • Attend scheduled meetings
  • Coordinate, schedule, pay, and meet other members using Sync Opp’s tools.

Advisors can charge an hourly rate that they think is appropriate and is between $20 and $300. Pricing can be challenging, so here are some recommendations:

1. Know your customer! Think about the advice you can share and how much YOU would pay for that advice if you were in the client’s position. This will help give you a general price point you can consider.
2. Attract customers with reasonable prices! Clients are more likely to choose advisors if they are reasonably priced and have great ratings. So, before you start charging what your worth, start with a lower hourly rate until you build a positive reputation.

Note: A 15% advisor fee will be deducted from advisor earnings to covers costs related to meeting tools, messaging tools, profile maintenance, payment transfers, and recruitment efforts. For example, if your hourly rate is $100/hr and you will be leading a 1 hour meeting, Sync Opp will deposit $85 into your bank account..

Sync Opp clients, and not the advisors, can input a meeting into our system. Through Sync Opp’s messaging system, advisors need to consult with the client on meeting details that work for you both (e.g. date, time range, time zone, meeting type [phone vs web], and discussion points). The client will be asked to enter these meeting details as part of the meeting scheduling process.

Advisors meet with their clients using Sync Opp’s web or phone meeting tools. Using our tools help advisors stay protected by our policies and keep their contact information private.

Meetings will not be officially scheduled until the advisor accepts the meeting. The advisor can accept meetings in 2 ways: (1) Select the “Accept” link in the emailed meeting request, or (2) Select the “Accept” button for the meeting of interest in the Appointments tab of the advisor’s personal account.

Note: If a meeting is not accepted at least 48 hours before a meeting date/time, it will automatically be cancelled. For example, the advisor must accept a meeting by 1/11/16 at 1:00 PM for a meeting request for 1/13/16 at 1:00 PM. We have set up the system this way to support timely notification and sufficient preparation by the client and advisor.

Meetings can be declined in 2 ways: (1) Advisors can select the “Decline” link in the emailed meeting request, or (2) Select the “Decline” button for the meeting of interest in the Appointments tab of the advisor’s personal account.

Meetings can be cancelled by contacting us at support@syncopp.com and providing us with meeting information (e.g. your name, your client’s name, meeting date and time). Please contact our support team as soon as possible so we can update your meeting status and notify your client.

Note: Advisors will be charged a $50 penalty if they cancel their accepted meeting less than 48 hours before the meeting date and time or if they do not attend their meeting within the 10 minute grace period. This policy is out of respect for the time reserved by the client.

After the advisor has accepted the meeting, the advisor and client will be emailed instructions on how to log in to their meeting. These details can also be found in the Appointments tab of each member’s personal account.

Unfortunately, we are working on creating this function. Please follow these steps to reschedule your meeting:

1. You or the client need to cancel the meeting of interest.
2. The client needs to send another meeting request with new meeting details.
3. You need to accept the new meeting.

Note: Advisors will be charged a $50 penalty if they cancel their accepted meeting less than 48 hours before the meeting date and time or if they do not attend their meeting within the 10 minute grace period. This policy is out of respect for the time reserved by the client.

Advisors are responsible for keeping track of and attending their Sync Opp meetings. Your credit card on file will be charged a $50 penalty if you do not attend your accepted meeting within the 10 minute grace period. This policy is out of respect for the time reserved by the client.

Things sometimes do not work out as planned. To receive credit for your meeting, advisors must stay logged in to the phone or web meeting for at least 10 minutes after the meeting start time. Because we value your time, you will be paid what you are owed for the meeting even though the client is a no show.

Funds will be transferred into the bank account the advisor designates in their Payment Profile. Transfers will be initiated after a meeting has been marked by our system as completed. Payments take 5 to 7 business days to process.

Note: A 15% advisor fee will be deducted from advisor earnings to covers costs related to meeting tools, messaging tools, profile maintenance, payment transfers, and client recruitment. For example, if your hourly rate is $100/hr and you will be leading a 1 hour meeting, Sync Opp will deposit $85 into your bank account.

The beginning of every year, Sync Opp will email a form called a 1099-MISC only to advisors that have earned $600 or more on our site the previous calendar year. This form is designed to assist advisors in reporting their taxes and is also provided to the IRS.
